What Are HCG Diet Pills?

HCG is a drug, which is a hormone produced by the placenta in pregnant women.  HCG is not a pill you swallow two times a day before your meals.  To obtain HCG, you must have a prescription.  Even though hCG has been used in fertility clinics for many years, the FDA still has not approved hCG to lose weight.  The reason is that hCG is injected, and taking the hCg diet pills orally wouldn't work because the stomach acids and enzymes render the hCG as completely ineffective.

So what is responsible for the weight loss? There are a few factors involved: Adhering to a very low calorie diet (VLCD) of only 500 calories is responsible for weight loss as well as daily injections of hCG that enables the dieter to not have any hunger pangs and makes "metabolically active" the abnormal body fat. This results in inches lost while at the same time preserving lean muscle tissue, unlike other low calorie diets.

Dr. Simions was the pioneer of the research and testimonials and he never advocated additional dietary aids or supplements during the hCG diet. However, today there are many clinics that have different philosophies on how the hCG diet should be followed.

While it seems hard to believe, some feedback from those on diet pills in conjunction with the hCG diet often had trouble eating the required 500 calories. However, it is important to actually get 500 calories in the body during the hCG diet.

In Dr. At.W. Simions' "Pounds and Inches" which was written over 40 years ago, he writes that his protocol does not require further additional dietary aides such as weight loss pills or appetite suppressants. Even though he researched this, it is quite common to discover there are several weight loss clinics that offer the hCG diet accompanied by dietary supplements.

Dr. Simions' hCg diet only requires that the hCG by itself is accompanied with a VLCD of 500 calories.  There are B-12 shots and other various diet aides that are commonly sold as a "package deal."  You need to check with your physician and/or hCG clinic to find out what is exactly offered.

It is important to only obtain hCG from a legal medical source which will require you to have a blood test and a prescription in order to purchase hCG. In addition, they should also answer any questions you may have regarding the hCG diet, and this should include whether or not dietary aides are right for you.

The hCg diet lasts either 47 or 64 days depending on how much weight one needs to lose.  Once the cycle completes, if you feel you need more help to maintain your weight it is important to consult your physician and or hCG provider who will in turn, provide information on other supplements or dietary aids if needed along with a multi-vitamin.

Ideally, it would be wonderful to be able to swallow the hCG diet pill and magically lose all the weight needed to be healthy.  Unfortunately, this is not the case.  However, what is a positive fact about hCG is that many hCG dieters have been extremely successful "re-setting" their eating habits, becoming healthier eaters, which means they have seldom had problems over-eating or being unable to control their diet upon completing the protocol.
